You should be more than qualified for such work, so your main task will be to find an employer who sees you as a perfect fit for his/her needs. I say this not to be obvious, but to indicate that employers are more and more looking for folks with particular backgrounds and skills to help complete specific jobs rather than build careers.
Consider the fact that you'll be going from the public to the private employment sector -- it's much different and there'll be a period of adjustment. Remember that while there appear to be many jobs available in your field there are an awful lot of people looking for work right now, due to downsizing in the public and private sectors. I would guess you're around 40 years old, so age is a factor, too, as it relates to salary expectations and just plain age discrimination. "What?" you say, "certainly 40 isn't considered old!" In today's employment market being 40 can be a limiting factor, as idiotic as it may seem. Many outfits are looking for young, cheap and short haul. It's not a good long term strategy, but it'll take companies a while to figure that out -- Bottom Line is today's boss. Trouble is, Bottom Line is short-sighted and doesn't have a conscience.
Wish I could put you on to a job, but I'm not in that business. Assuming you're in the Washington Metro area, post a free ad in the Reston / Herndon Web's Positions Wanted classified section and check out the area print classifieds. The Washington Post's ads can be accessed on-line at http://www.careerpath.com., as well as ads for other cities. You might start by checking out AOL (America On-Line) in Vienna, VA. They're advertising for technical people aggresively and seem to be expanding at a great rate -- and it's pretty much ALL network, of course.
Let me know how you do. Good luck and have a great Holiday!
