The town of Herndon is named after my ancestor's (Commodore Matthew Fontaine
Maury; founded oceanography) cousin & brother in law, whose
wife was Ann Hull Herndon, sister of Capt Wm Lewis Herndon. These family
names of Fontaine, Maury, Lewis, Hull, Herndon, and many others all come
out of Fredericksburg, Virginia. I take my family's name "genealogically" back to France 1500.
